Designing an interior for a married couple who love and collect art was a great pleasure, but also a challenge. The brief evolved over time – initially, the house was intended to have a more residential character, but in the end, its gallery and social functions prevailed. We placed the greatest emphasis on elaborate details, leaving nothing to chance. The house is also designed as an intelligent and energy-efficient building. Natural materials dominate the interior – concrete, used not only as a structural element but also as an exposed finish, creates a beautiful backdrop for the artworks. Casting an exposed concrete wall with a fireplace measuring nearly 8 x 8m was a challenge, but it was worth it. On the floors, we combined solid oak parquet imported from Denmark, with planks up to 5m long, with magnificent Bianco carrara marble. This type of marble, favored by Renaissance sculptors, is white with grey veining. We laid it so that the veins follow each other exactly as they were extracted from the quarry. The lighting concept operates on two levels – the foundation consists of special gallery spotlights complemented by several designer pieces that such a generous space certainly deserves. We managed to create an interesting effect in the ground floor hallway, where the ceiling is a completely illuminated stretched fabric. We selected the furniture carefully; each piece is exceptional and underscores the eclectic gallery style. We complemented the interesting standalone pieces only with purist custom-made furniture. The kitchen, doors, and built-in bookcases are strictly white and rather unobtrusive. The kitchen island is a minimalist grey-black cube. Another interesting feature is the dual-zone wine cellar, which has become part of the living area thanks to a frameless glass wall. The design of the private gallery had to be minimalist enough to serve as a good backdrop for contemporary art once the furniture pieces are removed. For this very reason, however, it also had to be high-quality and timeless. Therefore, we focused on selecting exclusive materials and refining the architectural and furniture details.
