We designed and implemented the interior of the Grand Koliba residence for the client's parents. The main goal was to create an unconventional and comfortable transitional home for them, making maximum use of the relatively small space. We did not fundamentally change the layout, but we sought to elevate it through an appropriate arrangement of storage spaces, of which there is a maximum in the apartment. Comfort is also ensured by the barrier-free design of every element and the possibility of using the living room as a temporary bedroom. The design concept involved the use of traditional materials in a new interpretation. Terracotta became the supporting element, which, in combination with modern features, appears timeless and human. Walls not used for storage are mostly treated with natural fiber wallpaper or paint in muted earthy tones. We also supported the concept of contrast through the selection of furnishings, which combine traditionalist elements such as Ton furniture and Viennese cane webbing with minimalist lighting and accessories. We furnished the apartment in the modern new building to feel timeless, elegant, yet human. We maximized the practical aspect and supported it with a design built on contrasts: traditional materials such as stone, wood, and terracotta combined with modern furniture and minimalist lighting.
