The sloping plot with access from both opposite sides and a comprehensive brief from the client created relatively unconventional constraints for the design of the family house. It is intended to serve a married couple after their children have moved out, concentrating all desired functions in a way that ensures logical flow, provides comfort, and maximizes the connection between the interior and the exterior. We positioned the building mass as close as possible to the northern entrance of the plot to maximize the use of the garden and minimize the house's forecourt. The northern part of the plot is set one floor lower than the southern side, which logically placed all living rooms on the ground floor, in direct connection with the garden. We emphasized the primary value of the ground floor through the architectural and material treatment of the building volumes. The concept of the house is to draw the garden into its interior, thereby eliminating dark areas in the layout. We achieved this by dividing the mass with two glass atria. The orientation of solid and transparent sections ensures sufficient natural light and contact with the surroundings without sacrificing privacy, thanks to the strategic placement of solid walls. The layout works with a relatively large area, which we divided into three sections: the underground floor, which serves as the entrance level with a garage for three cars and technical facilities. Two sections are located on the ground floor: the southern part consists of a wing for the married couple, featuring a bedroom, a walk-in closet, and a master bathroom, connected to the kitchen and living room. The northern part of this floor consists of guest rooms for the temporary accommodation of children and visitors. These two wings are separated by a circulation tract accentuated by the two atria. The main living area of the house is highlighted by raising the ceiling slab above the level of the northern part and inserting a clerestory window. This lightens the overall mass and creates unconventional moments of light entering the interior.
